Sports should ALWAYS come second to academics. I get so sick of hearing about sports and then get told no funds for a program to support learning!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10653377.post-31679161818565259842008-03-07T12:44:00.000-05:002008-03-07T12:44:00.000-05:00Yes, it does put others at risk. Try to plan a family vacation over one of the breaks when a sport is involved and see what happens to your athelete! Don't you think education should be on that list somewhere too? :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10653377.post-41515077788537426262008-03-06T16:57:00.000-05:002008-03-06T16:57:00.000-05:00OH yea and basketball wouldn't be 3rd on my list e...OH yea and basketball wouldn't be 3rd on my list either.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10653377.post-50809738312880891792008-03-06T16:55:00.000-05:002008-03-06T16:55:00.000-05:00Yes I've had 3 children in this school system and ...Yes I've had 3 children in this school system and also in athletics as well. I went thru this school system too. I was in track, basketball and volleyball. So I know sports can develope good life skills but it has happened many a time when school has been cancelled we still manage to have whatever sport is scheduled that night. That does put others at risk. It's just not a good practice. That speaks volumes to me. When I played it was for the love of the game. But it wasn't my life.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10653377.post-90057274813039325972008-03-06T13:53:00.000-05:002008-03-06T13:53:00.000-05:00I believe God, family, basketball is to help the a...I believe God, family, basketball is to help the athletes put it in proper order. Basketball (or any sport) should not be first in one's list of priorities. So where would you put safety? You must not think it is up there with God or family?! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10653377.post-6266545518819827762008-03-06T12:52:00.000-05:002008-03-06T12:52:00.000-05:00To the previous poster "The sporting event would n...To the previous poster "The sporting event would never happen if the school felt it would hinder someone's safety by traveling on slick roads". You've probably never had an athelete participate in the basketball program at WHS or heard the creed "God, Family, Basketall".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10653377.post-71545128518872653612008-03-05T20:49:00.000-05:002008-03-05T20:49:00.000-05:00Sports has a lot to offer our students in developi...Sports has a lot to offer our students in developing life skills and building character. However, good things to an extreme can turn into obsessions that are out of control. I don't think anyone in the Wawasee system means for sports to be an obsession or addiction.

Going ahead with a sporting event in an evening after a day of canceled school is carefully considered, based on how the weather conditions turn out as the day progresses. I don't have any problem with Wawasee deciding to go ahead and host the sectional basketball game even though there was no school that day. The sporting event would never happen if the school felt it would hinder someone's safety by traveling on slick roads.

The previous poster is right, however, and we need to keep perspective in our lives. But I am thankful that our entire community can benefit from the positives of athletics. Why get worked up over whether a sporting event happened or didn't happen?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10653377.post-21735076829666284302008-03-05T18:17:00.000-05:002008-03-05T18:17:00.000-05:00to the athlete. Did ya ever notice that even when we don't have school because of weather, they still manage to have the games in the same evening!! That tells me there's TOO MUCH emphesis on sports in this community. There are other things in life. I am a sports fan and played in school. But I'm not going to put it above the things in life that I will get more use out of for the rest of my life.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10653377.post-62248135040245739352008-03-04T20:16:00.000-05:002008-03-04T20:16:00.000-05:00we all know that the one they took off was the one...we all know that the one they took off was the one on Mrs. Stevens because like none of the freshmen or new students to wawasee do not know her so I think tht is why it was so low or bad. I wondered about a certain question regarding the principal (as I recall is was #7). When I reviewed the results I found it very interesting that they were opposite of the students views I researched through interviews. The Sectional is this week-end....it would be nice if they could be recognized like the Basketball teams!!!! They practice EVERYDAY for 3hrs!!!! They put their heart & soul into this team, not to mention the risk of serious injury!! I think they work as hard as any other Team, Squad etc. & get VERY LITTLE recognition.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
