It would be nice if you would post this on at least one of the local news stations!!!

Are all after school activities canceled also?

It is posted on WSBT (as of 12:36 when I checked it). There are certainly many venues used to post cancellations and I think the corporation is doing well by having a variety of posting methods. Thank you!

Yes-the corporation does a fine job of gettting this info out. I was watching for it and it appeared on WNDU & WSBT in the past 30 minutes. Also appeared on the Blog when the decision was made. Good job Mr. Edington!

Does getting out an hour early mean we have to make up the whole day with the new attendance rules that the state has imposed?

After school activities are canceled today.

This is not a day we will have to make up. The state allows one or two hour emergency weather delays or early dismissals to count as a full instructional day.

Great job posting the early dismissal on the radio station and 2 television stations as well as the notices from we are closed. It was nice to know about the dismissal before the kids called when they were leaving school.

I'm glad that the students were released early, but I don't feel it's right that they would ask students to contact their parents to inform them. It is not now nor has it ever been the students job in inform their parents that school is being dismissed early.

The school doesn't ask students to inform their parents. My child only called me to let me know that she was leaving the school so I would have an idea when to expect her.

Thank You Joy for answering my question about makeup days.

Someone asked my daughter to inform me of the early dismissal. They actually sent her to her locker to get her phone so she could call/text me to inform me.

There is a huge hill close to where I live and it is NEVER PLOWED! The other day a car slid off the hill into a ditch and the driver was injured. I have to drive on that hill everyday in order to go to school and I would really like to not die. so can you make sure that when we don't have 2 hour delays in the morning that the roads are actually SAFE?
THANK YOU!

I think schools do that when sports are involved. Speaking of sports. I assumed that all sporting events were canceled for tonight, but wasn't 100% sure. I would have been nice if along with the notice on the websights and/or tv if it would have mentioned sporting events canceled as well. I had to manipulate through the sight and to the athletic page and manipulate through that to find out 100% for sure.

I personnly think that if the roads were as bad as they were today and caused the students to leave early that there should be no school. I know I do not feel safe with my child on a bus even when the roads are this icy and a mess with snow. So, please just because SR 13 is safe make sure the backroads are safe as well because the majority of students live out of town. And most of those roads are no plowed. I have a younger daughter who rides the bus and says she is scared sometimes to even get on it in these conditions, and my older daughter got stuck in the ditch coming home on Tuesday so please consider this for tomorrow.

I think school should be delayed 2 hours in the morning. That should be posted right now! I was just out and the roads are horrible. I don't for see all the roads being safe for the students in the morning. What's it going to hurt to put out a 2 hour delay tonight? It's better to delay now then to put kids in jeopardy in the morning.

I am a School Bus Driver. I drove this morning and this afternoon. Yes this morning the roads were slick in places, snow covered in others and even bare places were present. There wasn't a need to CANCEL school at that time. It is the first of Jan here in the state of Indiana and our school district it right along the Continental divide. That means inclement weather is here to stay awhile. The roads will be very different from one end of the district to the other. WE, ALL as drivers need to understand that when road conditions are not the most desirable that it is necessary that we leave early, drive slower than usual and take precautions on the roadways. The Wawasee Bus Fleet is comprised of some of the BEST manufactured autos here in the state. Wawasee's bus fleet has impeccable Mechanics that keep EVERY bus in the most excellent condition and working order. If your child is concerned about the roads & the drivers ability to transport them safely you should reassure them that School Buses are the safest transportation to and from school in all road conditions. Kids who are not experienced in these conditions and do not feel comfortable driving should ride a BUS. The buses are much more well equipped to travel these types of roads. The professional drivers are very well trained, confident and take the very most caution in traveling with your children daily regardless of the roads. You should reassure your children that traveling on a School Bus is much safer than traveling in a smaller, lighter less equipped standard auto. I do believe that most delays & cancellations are for the benefit of the average driver and not to the bus fleet. I felt confident driving both am & pm routes today. It did take me longer than usual. I felt that I had control of my Bus at all times do to decreased speed and extra caution. However I did enjoy the extra time playing in the snow with my childen tonight as well. Overall a good day!
