I would like to point out that the text I got from WeAreClosedToday.com told me that Wawasee was having a delay on Thursday the 7th, which is today. I don't plan on going to school again today even if there is a 2-hour delay. =)

Please keep an eye on the roads and weather we are supposed to get more snow tonight and throughout tomorrow. So please consider that if the kids go to school, or if they don't go tomorrow.

Nevermind I guess. The WACT site has the correct info on it. Must have been a rogue text. =)

If we could have a cancelation tomorow...maybe that would help balance the the sadness Indians students have from nolonger getting half days!! :)!! That decision had nothing to do with Wawaee BUT you could make it ALL BETTER by giving us a cancelation tomorow!! :)

The back road are horrible already. My daughter ended up in a ditch just parking the car a couple hours ago! She and the car are fine. It may be worse in the morning.

Everything is better in the daylight. Let's stick with a delay and avoid a cancellation. Drive slower or take the bus. The cancellation would only be if the busses are unable to maneuver the roads/turnarounds.

The wawasee main page needs updated....

I know the back roads around the enchanted hills area are bad. The Nob/Elk/Kos County Line is difficult to drive down as you can't even see the road itself let alone the edge of the road. Hopefully someone will take a good look at that seeing as most of the roads out this way are full of curves.

I am a School Bus Driver. It is the first of Jan here in the state of Indiana and our school district it right along the Continental divide. That means inclement weather is here to stay awhile. The roads will be very different from one end of the district to the other. WE, ALL as drivers need to understand that when road conditions are not the most desirable that it is necessary that we leave early, drive slower than usual and take precautions on the roadways. The Wawasee Bus Fleet is comprised of some of the BEST manufactured autos here in the state. Wawasee's bus fleet has impeccable Mechanics that keep EVERY bus in the most excellent condition and working order. If your concerned about the roads & the drivers ability to transport the kids safely you should reassure them that School Buses are the safest transportation to and from school in all road conditions. The CDL Professional drivers are very well trained, confident and take the very most caution in traveling with your children daily regardless of the roads. The buses are much more well equipped to travel in these road conditions. You should rest asured that traveling on a School Bus is much safer than traveling in a smaller, lighter less equipped standard auto. I do believe that most delays & cancellations are for the benefit of the average driver and not to the bus fleet. I feel comforatable & confident driving your children. It does take longer than usual to get from place to place with decreased speed and extra caution. Safe travels to all and thank you Wawasee Corp. for the early notice of the delay!

Thank you to all the bus drivers!!

It confused me to see Thursday January 7, 2010 as the heading for the delay today...maybe someone could have posted it again this morning to avoid this confusion? I didn't even read the announcement under it b/c I thought it was still from yesterday!

Anonymous said...

has anyone seen the country roads!? THEY ARE TERRIBLE!

Anonymous said...

The roads are still as bad as they were yesterday. If the kids were able to leave school early because of the roads then why is there not a cacenllation? This is absolutely ridiculous. I had a tough time driving and I've been driving in the snow for almost 20 years compared to my daughters 2 years. So please, if the roads are still bad then why is there still school. Please drive on backroads around the Enchanted Hills and North Webster areas, its is hard to even turn on these roads without getting stuck. I know not having school would be a snow make up day but I rather use one of those than risk my daughter's life while driving.

Just because Warsaw does not close does not mean that we should not close as well. We are our own school corp. and we should set the delay or cancellation due to what OUR administration thinks. It always seems that we do not close until school like Warsaw or Goshen closes. So have a mind of your own when thinking of my child's life please.

Amen. I refuse to let my daughter drive to school today. I understand that the school doesn't want to have make up days but I think the students' lives are a bit more important.

My child has complained about it being a really kind of scary drive even on a bus. She has said that even sometimes the bus does not stop in the place it is supposed to or when it turns it feels like its going to tip over. I am not overreacting when I am concerned about my child's life, just because she has to get to school because people refuse to close. Please consider the kids who get stuck on their way driving and even the kids who ride the bus.

I agree with the comment above. Please consider them driving. I am personally taking time out of my dad to drive my kids to school just because my youngest foes not feel safe on the bus and my oldest I do not want driving. So please, cancel. There is no need that I have to do this when I have to take an hour out of my work time to take my kids to school just because the administration refuses to cancel. I know its my choice but I fear my kids safety.

cancle?

Anonymous said...

No, they are being ridiculous and won't cancel.

I agree with them being ridiculous. It is freezing outside and the roads are horrible.

Anonymous said...

really wawasee? still no cancelation, wow. let's just tell the students to drive on these snow covered & icy roads with their eyes closed while were at it.

Anonymous said...

please take into consideration that we should cancel school. my child has also complained about the drive to school. she has had to leave the house an extra thirty minutes before she actually has to just to get to school on time because she do not want to go over thirty miles per hour. i worried you are not concerned about our childerns lifes. the back roads are terrible. i believe canceling school is for the best!!

doesn't wawasee care about the kids?

Anonymous said...

I do not think so...
That is the way is seems at least.

This administration is the most ridiculous and if I may say inconsiderate adminstration Wawasee has ever had. My kids complain this whole week because its been bad. This is so stupid.

Anonymous said...

I'm calling administration right now because this is so stupid. It seems that they do not care for our children's safety! I'm not saying they don't but this is how it seems... I agree about this being the worst administration. Please quit making this about this administration and your creditentials and about the kids and their safety please. I may be kind of rude, but I care about my kid and I cannot be there if they go into a ditch because some of us have jobs.

School should be closed today! The roads don't look any better now then they did 2 hours ago. Please think about these childrens safety!

Anonymous said...

There is no use in complaining here and now. What's done is done. It is within your rights to keep your child home if feel it unsafe for them to ride the bus or drive to school. The will not cancel at this point in time since buses have already started running.

Thank you everyone for your entertainment you have provided me. I support the anonymous bus driver because I think he/she is right. I am also glad that we are not having a cancellation, because seriously people your one county away from Michigan so yeah the weather is gonna get crappy. If your kids are scared to drive on the road, suggest to them to SLOW down. Its not that scary when you are traveling below 40 MPH. Also its good experience for them to drive in these conditions.

Anonymous said...

To the adults complaining about not having a cancellation--how many of you do not go to work because it has snowed? Does your employer expect you to be at work even if it has snowed? I know mine does. I leave earlier, drive slower and still go. School is the students work at this stage of their lives. They need to learn responsibility. Yes, they are young, inexperienced drivers. If you feel it's too dangerous, send them on the bus or keep them home.

I wonder how many of these "posters" have called in to work every time, it is "freezing out, or the roads are slick?" Looking through all of the posts, many have multiple spelling errors. Maybe they did not go to school often enough. Probably the freezing temps and less than ideal road conditions. After all, it is Northern Indiana and we just are not used to such weather.

Anonymous said...

And to the blogger who stated that their kids complained all week..... AWWWW better cave in to what they want then! Heaven forbid!

Anonymous said...

Why would the weather and road conditions be the biggest controversy in Syracuse this week? Let's put equal amount of energy into giving the students a good education. Parents, take part in your students' education by supporting their academics. Teach them responsibility to be school most every day, do their work, and respect their authorities.

Geez, no wonder we have problems getting students successfully through school.

Personally, I want my daughter in school if at all possible.

Also, I have a theory about the above comments with many spelling errors and grammatical errors. They are staged comments posted by students who want to stay home.

You kids don't realize how much better you could utilize your days off in the summer rather than a snow day now.

Drive slowly! Stay safe! God bless!

as a student i agree with Curtis
