K12 Planet Down Again

For those parents who have tried to use the parent internet connection to check on your children's grades, we apologize for the poor service especially at trimester grade time.

We received the following message from the software company:

Due to an error in the database used by K12Planet, service is currently unavailable. Chancery is working to correct the problem as quickly as possible. At this time, we do not have a specific time when service will be restored. Our expectation is that we'll require an additional 48-72 hours to correct the problem.

We understand the impact that a disruption in service has to teachers, parents, students, and administrators. Our team is committed to providing you with the most secure, reliable, and available service. We appreciate your continued patience.

I've been frustrated in the past with K-12 planet also. My understanding was that it was to be updated on Tuesdays. Sometimes updated grades have not appeared until Thursday afternoon - and the teachers say they have them done on Tuesdays. I'm not sure what the lag time is about.

We are investigating an entirely new student software program and hope to recommend something in the next month for next school year. The programs we are looking at do NOT require teachers to "upload" to make current information available to parents. They are automatic.

Staff and parents have been frustrated with many problems caused by the current program.

As soon as the committee's decisions are made, we will let people know.

We apologize for the problems - but hope to fix them by fall.

Because K12 Planet has been down for over a week, teachers should be willing to share trimester-end grades with their students. It is not fair to tell the students to "check K12 Planet" when the technology is not working.

I knew two years ago that K12Planet was not worth accessing. I really tried to use it to check on my kids' grades, any discipline comments, any information at all on how my kids were doing at WCSC. The grades never showed up until days after the midterm report or report card came to me via good old paper. I couldn't even get past the password screen on several occasions. If WCSC was paying a subscription for this service, I'm glad they will soon stop.
