Why is it that a math teacher at the high school has been absent for school to go see his daughter play? That is fine if he has used his personal days, but he has been gone more than the three personal days allowed. Does this mean he is calling in sick? Has he decided to miss those days without pay? Is he misusing sick days to go see his daughter play? Can the rest of us use sick days to do something we want to do? It does seem the administration enforces some rules very strictly for some teachers, but bend the rules or outright break them for others. Please tell us this is not the case, or at least do us the courtesy to look into this and correct this if there has been favoritism. Should we get the union involved in an investigation?

Personnel decisions are private information. What I can tell you is that over the years there have been a handful of personal situations where teachers have requested additional days without pay for a variety of personal reasons. The negotiated master agreement is always followed.

If any teacher is questioning whether or not the master contract has been followed they should give me a call.
