Did that financial report happen to find the money to purchase Microsoft Word for the high school computers? As a student in WHS, I find it appalling that we can find the money to build a brand new press box for the football and track fields, yet the corporation cannot find the money to buy a necessary program for the computers. Star Office, which we are forced to use because it is free, is a sorry excuse for a word processor. It is almost entirely incompatible with any other word processor known to man, which makes it extremely difficult to type a report. You practically have to write it entirely at home or entirely at school. Taking it back and forth in almost impossible. Even the teachers believe that the program is terrible and wish that we had Word back. The last time I checked, a school’s primary function is to educate students, not play football. How can we properly educate the students if the necessary tools are not there? Our corporation needs to sort out its priorities and realize that sports can, and should, come secondary to education. Not the other way around.

Which employers in our community use Star Office? If they are using it, then students should be trained on that software. Otherwise, we should stick with industry standards and use the software they are using. Star Office causes numerous frustrations for students and teachers.

Star office causes more hassles than imaginable with a writing program. it messes up fonts, formats, and overall appearance of papers. is it worth being free? i think not. you can't switch from microsoft word to star office without many corrections to be made. 75$ is a small price to pay for the convenience of being able to actually write a paper and be able to print it off without the worry of correcting all the formatting errors. as a senior, i know i will no longer have to deal with these difficulties after this year, but i feel bad for the underclassmen who will. it needs to be changed!
