Keep the early informing up!! It makes it so much easier for us parents to make plans. Thank you

The roads by our house haven't even been plowed yet, and is a sheet of ice, I'd really appreciate a close

Anonymous said...

here too they have plowed but its nothing but a sheet of ice and we are still under a level two travel advisory we would like a close too just for the safety of the kiddos

Anonymous said...

the early informing is great thank you

Even though it says it is going to get warmer later in the day tomorrow, the wind is going to be stronger later in the day also. The roads are still terrible too. A closing will be appropriate for the safety of the students.

i must agree it is still a very dangerous situation and they need to close my 6th grader wants school but only because of a field trip

Anonymous said...

the news is saying it will still be very dangerous at noon it would be alot safer for these kids to just stay home again their safety is more important with the weather the way it is right now

Anonymous said...

I think it is a good idea to close also because the roads are still slick even in town. I think it would be best if we close for safety the of staff and students.

I know that the "main" roads in and around the school district are in fairly good condition. I live in town (Milford) now but for 12 years I lived on the north side of Dewart lake. CR 1000 was one of the last roads to get plowed. Plus it in a hole. The only way in is downhill and the only way out is up hill. Not to mention all the hills and curves. Some curves right at the top of a hill. I believe that most of the lakes can be compared to Dewart. There were days that I told my kids to stay home because I did not want them on a bus in these same conditions. This is after the bus they rode slid of the road into a ditch and was so close to rolling on to its side all because the roads were to icy to stop. This wasn't even close to the lakes. Keep the kids home till the roads are not so icy for the safety of the children.

Thanks for your patience with us parents as well. This has been one crazy winter! Been a long time!

I appreciate any and all updates!

just because schools around us have not cancelled doesn't mean we shouldn't cancel maybe we should set the example

Anonymous said...

I don't want to have to stand out in 15 degree windchill, waiting for a bus for 5-20 minutes. Too cold. A cancellation would be appreciated.

Anonymous said...

I totally agree for not only the kids but staff as well safety first let's set the example also we may be the parents and seem pushy at times but safety for EVERYONE should be enough to cancel

Anonymous said...

we set examples for all the students and staff towards always put safety first so that they learn this later in life a closing for tomorrow would be the prime example of showing these kids that you care and think of their safety before anything my husband is a fireman and the counties are even saying to stay off the roads so that they may be taken care of so please i agree close for tomorrow untill the roads are safe and the wind chill warnings are gone because even at noon the kids will be out in it at school and the warnings arent set to expire until then thank you

Anonymous said...

I'd appreciate a closing never are the kids that walk to school thought of during a cancellation. We need to be cancelled. My kids will not be going tomorrow for their own safety.

Anonymous said...

Its completely inappropriate to ask out children to go to school when it is considered dangerous to be outside

Anonymous said...

If you dont close tomorrow its pure stupidity of you and wawasee just like last friday. My child had to walk to school in that thank you. Why let them suffer ? Its dangerous outside id understand if a school bus would pick them up but sense its "to close" you dont. Think about the students and their safty not about your pay check. Think to yourself .. do i want to walk in this? Your answer would be no. Close the school be smart for once wawasee.

Anonymous said...

I'm not going to school tomorrow whether school closes or not. This is pure stupidity.

Anonymous said...

close it

Anonymous said...

PLEASE CLOSE THE SCHOOL FOR WEDNESDAY THE 29TH OF JANUARY this is not only for the safety of our kiddos but the safety for YOURSELF as well the wind chill warnings are still in effect until noon tomorrow these kids are still going to be outside in it wheather they walk or ride to school if its that dangerous out for warnings then why have a two hour delay it will still be that bad when school does start lets think for a minute about the kiddos and yourself would you want to go out in this and i believe that alot of your students wont be attending tomorrow because of the weather come on now yes everyone needs to work to live but dont you think that it would be nice if our own school thought about the kids first and not their pay again im speaking on behalf of the kiddos PLEASE CANCEL FOR TOMORROW NOT ONLY FOR THEIR SAFETY BUT YOURS AS WELL

Anonymous said...

It is negative four out right now does anyone really think it will be that much warmer with a two hour delay and with the wind chills on top of it you need to close for tomorrow

Anonymous said...

it doesnt matter how many layers you put on you could still be in immediate danger being out in this cold for 5 mins please be smart and cancel save these kids the cold weather

Anonymous said...

Im not sending my kids to school you should be the kids and have to walk to school in this crap!!!

Anonymous said...

My daughter has to walk over a mile to get to school each morning. If you can make that walk without getting frostbite or sick or worse, then I'll consider sending my kids. But until then you should rethink this.

Anonymous said...

i totally agree with all of the other parents you should close the school how bad are you going to feel when over half of your student body doesnt show because they are sick or in the hospital i understand that it is the parents decision to send their kids but come on if they miss too much school then they get notes phone calls ect. from them missing too much save everyone the heartache and missery and just cancel for tomorrow thursday is suppose to be much safe weather wise roads wise not to sure but think about it these kids dont deserve to be out in this crap and neither do your staff and we shouldnt ask the staff or the kids to be in it so just cancel

Anonymous said...

I am not letting my kids go to school in this weather

Anonymous said...

I'm a 7th grade student and i really don't want school to be canceled so I can see my girlfriend but if you would cancel after school activities that would be vary much appreciated.

Jackie said...

If there is school tomorrow and I see any student walking I will stop and take them to school. it is better than letting them freeze!

Anonymous said...

Most parents are just worried about the windchill temp, what about the roads? Half of your student body drives to school everyday. There will be multiple wrecks if you do not cancel. Also, everyone with busted/frozen pipes will not be able to shower before school. Elkhart Has already cancelled, don't be the last one!!! The administration always talks about how they want v to better or school and be the best, well is that worth sacrificing lives and possibly limbs for people without warm clothing, just for a school grade? Get real!

Anonymous said...

jackie that is very nice of you and there should be more people out there like that! i think that all of these comments have more sense than anything does anyone else think that it is awfully funny that the only time wawasee closes is due to the other schools in the area i think that they too need to set an example and close there are so many out there that have gone without heat water and many other things at this time that it is utterly stupid to let these kids out there especially the ones that drive walk or ride a bus i mean ANY of them

Anonymous said...

im sorry to say this to the seventh grader i understand that you want to see your girlfriends but come on there is a phone and wouldnt you rather they be safe so that you can see them again one more day isnt going to kill anyone just be patient and hope that wawasee cancels so that you all can be safe and sound

Anonymous said...

my kids arent going tomorrow either lets get real people its dangerous out there

Jo said...

Just out of pure curiosity....does anyone in admin actually read these comments? I'm just wondering because it's seems parents and the student body at large are talking and no one seems to be listening. I can understand sending the kids with some snow and ice on the roads, but with the wind chill warning and the still severely snow and ice covered roads that we have it would be safer to cancel school and be done with it. Perhaps someone in admin could at the very least give us some feedback here.

Anonymous said...

jo you would think that they read this but im thinking the same thing it seems like we are all just talking to ourselves i agree this weather is rediculous west noble is closing now all of elkhart is closed and is it just me or does it seem that the only time we close is when warsaw closes i dont think that wawasee needs to be a follower they need to be a leader and show people look we care about our kids so if by chance some one from administration sees this COME ON ALREADY CLOSE

worried parent said...

JUST CLOSE ALREADY

Anonymous said...

Based on the grammar and spelling I have seen here, it looks like these kids need all the schooling they can get! The same people who complain and want to close now will be the same ones complaining in the summer when their kids are still in school and it is too warm.

Concerned Student said...

I am currently watching the news, with them saying everything they are about "Stay at home at all costs" and "It is dangerously cold" I would just like to make it known that I will not be attending school today cancellation or not. I am very sorry to say that and I would hate to ruin my perfect attendance but this is ridiculous. I am okay going to school in the summer as long as I am safe. Please do the right thing, but judging from Friday I doubt you will. - Concerned Student (With good spelling/grammer)

worried parent said...

my kids arent going school or not

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why you're on making a big deal about this we're going to have to extend the trimester we are in at the high school and go to school in the summer than it's ridiculous how you are making a big deal of it just go to school because when summer comes around you won't want to be in school because that's just how high schoolers are

Anonymous said...

the worry and concern is about the safety of all the kids high school, elementary, middle, and preschool so if you have to go extra days this summer it wont hurt you safety now is more important than whining about have to go extra later

Anonymous said...

This just shows Wawasee does not care.

Anonymous said...

so true they rescheduled the sixth grade ski trip but the rest of the kids have to go to school nappanee just closed so did breman but we are still open go figure worry about these kids for a change not your pay and close

Anonymous said...

my kids are not going

Anonymous said...

Please reconsider this! I will not be sending my children to school, but it would be nice to know that the school was thinking about their safety as well, and not about their summer.

Anonymous said...

well said i had to call administration to get ahold of my daughters bus driver to let her know that my child wont be attending today so dont pick her up and they arent even in i mean come on this over the top show the parents and student body you care and close

Jo said...

As far as staff not being in the admin office, they hardly ever seem to answer the phones on a normal day. I also don't know if they would still have their Wednesday smart start meetings today. I still wish they would just cancel today, I'm not looking forward to driving my children to school this morning one iota.

Anonymous said...

The best way to make your opinion known in attempt to change policy is direct and composed communication to the party or parties involved. Send an email, write a letter, or make a phone call. You have the right to choose not to send your child to school if you think it's unsafe. To post such passionate comments on a blog does not promote peace or change policy. It often just emphasizes the culture we've become...thinking that we'd do the job better than the next guy and that there's always something to complain about.

Anonymous said...

i spoke with milford and there is no smart start today that they did cancel so to me they are not thinking about what kids are going to go through to make it there i too wish they would just cancel

Jackie said...

School does not start until 10 a.m. There will be no smart start with a 2 hour delay. The Admin. office probably won't open until close to 10 a.m. If you call and tell them your student won't be there, you probably won't get anybody to answer the phone until at least 9:30 or 9:45 a.m. at the earliest.

Anonymous said...

policy for cancellation is below ten degrees temps and 20 degree wind chills well its 1 degree out with a negative 15 wind chill yea they need to cancel and there is no point in trying to get you opinion out to them besides here when they wont return calls letters emails etc. so no one is trying to do better just thinking of their kids and the safety for everyone involved

Anonymous said...

there are staff at milford and north webster to answer phones you cant reach the bus drivers my kiddos are suppose to be picked up here in ten minutes and cant reach them to let them know not to come this way trying to keep them safe as well this is just plain stupid when you are suppose to call the bus and let them know as well as the school i talked to the school but cant reach the bus which in a way is good because they arent answering their phones if they are driving but at the same time i dont want them out in this crap either

Jackie said...

Just how many of you who are complaining and not sending their student to school is going to go out and do whatever, because you can get out , but you don't won't to send your student to school? I have seen this more times than not, suck it up!

Anonymous said...

were not going anywhere it is too cold for the kids to be going anywhere but thats just me

Anonymous said...

Any word on makeup days for these cancellations yet?

Jo said...

Just going by the district school calendar our kids will currently going until June 2nd, unless they change the dates they are currently Feb 3, March 24, May 30, and additional days in June as needed. The day I'm concerned about is January 27, as it was already a make up day for the Sept 30 closing. I was wondering if the kids will still have to make up the Sept 30 closing?
