The Pledge

Put this in the category of..."Stuff you can't make up."

A Counselor at a school substituted the words "under your belief system" for "under God" while leading the school pledge and has now become a national story.

Everything we do and say is 15 minutes from "live on CNN."

Bill Gates calls it, "living the documented life."

Sounds like a case of trying to please everyone and ending up not pleasing anyone.

For a country that has "In God We Trust" on our money it's pretty lame not to be able to correctly recite our country's Pledge of Allegiance.
On the other hand the original pledge did not use "under God". It was changed in 1954 by Congress at the urging of the K of C.
For a short history of the Pledge check out this site. http://history.vineyard.net/pledge.htm

In this community, it is fairly safe to assume that we do not offend anyone by our pledge. However, this is a diverse country with a foundation of acceptance for all. Sometimes it seems as if we forget that others have a right to their own beliefs, even when they differ from ours. As schools, we need to be careful to show mutual respect for differences among us, our students and community.
