Handwriting Matters

Cursive handwriting has largely become a lost art. The computer keyboard was supposedly going to replace the need for cursive handwriting altogether.

However, this article points out that the need for quality penmanship still exists.

In regards to the latest postings about homosexual students wanting to be included in the non-discrimination policy--
If you'll notice, the policy states that the corp. does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, creed, sex, handicapping conditions, or national origin including limited English proficiency. Age, race, color, creed, sex, handicapping conditions, and national origin are beyond the individuals control. Limited English proficiency can be changed, given time. These conditions are not a choice. Homosexuality, as is any lifestyle choice, is. We shouldn't need there to be special provisions for people to be NICE to others. However, lifestyle choices should not be entitled to special protection. You made your choice, you deal with the consequences--just like in any other situation.

Wawasee High School as well as most any public school works hard to protect each student from crual and intimidating comments. But, we all know we do not know about many comments and things are said that is never heard or reported. We deal with each and every situation where we have facts with real names and incidences.

As for a policy on this issue, please look at the current Student Handbook on page 51. We have a policy against any type of racial/or sexual harassment. We also have a policy against and threats and intimidation on page 26, #1, under Major Offenses.

If this is going on and you are inicent of acting in a manner that is bringing it upon yourself, please report it and it will be investigated and dealt with.

Too bad North Webster Elementary has cheated our students out of learning cursive. Ohhhh sure they spent all of a couple hours and a few worksheets on it. Not to sound ancient but when I was in 3rd grade we spent the whole year writing everything in cursive. I had to teach my kids to write their names!!! Ask any freshman to in cursive write a capital and lowercase Q and Z and you'll be disappointed!!!!
