The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette today ran an editorial on the burdens facing public schools.
The public schools of America have been asked to do so much that their plate looks like a styrafoam plate at the church potluck. Is the styrafoam about to crack?
Wawasee veteran teachers may recognize the list of curriculum mandates that were quoted from the various decades because Mr. Smith, our previous superintendent, used this list in his speech to our staff my first year at Wawasee.

I am planning on running for Northwest Allen County School Board. We need to eliminate needless regulations and establish more local control at the School Board level.

Unfortunately, you may find what most local school board members recognize pretty quickly. Very few of the unfunded mandates that have affected your local schools have been enacted by the locally elected officials.
Feds dangle control over locals through the regulations found in federal grants.
State control is initiated throught the proliferation of state laws - demonstrated by the 1300+ pages in the Education Law book.
Local boards end up creating policies that just implement other people's policies.
