Two hour delay Monday

There will be a two-hour delay on Monday due to the extreme wind chill.

This will give the Transportation Department the needed time to make sure the buses will start after an idle weekend.

This will reduce the likelihood of children standing in the cold too long waiting for a late bus.

We are announcing it early to make it easy for parents to make plans.

(No - It's not a premature celebration of the Colt's anticipated victory! :-)

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

If the wind chill is going to be a factor tommorrow what about the eleamentry schools we the still go out for recess, if so I may not send my kids at all .

Anonymous said...

don't cancel school. then we have to make it up! have a 3 hour delay!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for making the call early.:)

Anonymous said...

Usually the schools do not make the kids go out for recess when the wind chill is this bad. This is only common sense.

I honestly hope you don't cancel school. Its not fair for the kids to have to make it up. It isn't their fault. The weather is no one's fault. It happens.

Anonymous said...

3hr delay 3hr delay 3hr delay 3hr delay Yeah Give us a 3hr delay

Anonymous said...

i think that we shouldnt have a closing. 3 HOUR DELAY will do!!! cuz i luv skool!!! GOT TO GO AND GET AN EDUCATION!!! LOL!!!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

yeah, why is it that thats closed, but we arent? but anyway, so far, the colts are losing, so idk whats gonna happen...haha.. but happy we have a delay!

I guess I would like football better if the gym teachers would teach the girls how to play and not just the boys. Then maybe more girls would like it more. Just a suggestion.

I personally don't have a favorite team, I like the commericals the best. Sorry sports fans.

Anonymous said...

It would be responsible to close.

Imagine what would happen if a bus broke down or was involved in an accident with these temperatures.

I feel sorry for the poor schleps without Internet at home -- this still hasn't shown on 22.

Anonymous said...

Excuse me, I have a friend who seen the 2 hr. delay on CBS Channel 22. He called me to let me know. Listen to your radio if you do not have internet access.

Anonymous said...

WSBT 22 had the delay posted before it was even on this blog, and there text messages were sent before it was posted on the blog.

Anonymous said...

Close please! It is really not smart to stay open when a milion other schools have closed!

GO BEARS

Anonymous said...

Personally I find this advanced notice of the delay a wonderful thing. Atleast parents can make arrangements for students if they have to leave for work. As for a cancellation, I'd rather stick with the delay or even make it a 3 hour delay if need be. Thanks for the advance notice Doc.

Anonymous said...

To those students who felt that it is not fair for students to have to make up a day cancelled because of weather, please know that the state mandates the number of days we must attend each year. Dr. Stock has nothing to do with this. And, I don't think the people at the IDOE really care too much which days we choose to include in our calendar, as long as there are 180 of them.

Here's hoping that the Bears regain and retain the lead!

Anonymous said...

no a closing because you dont want what happend on tuesday again now do we??? Wawasee Christen ACD is closed so we should to!! who cares about making it up!

Anonymous said...

To all the parents who want a cancellation, fine, if they cancel then you can make up the snow day instead of the kids. You seem to want it more than the kids do.

My 2 children are looking forward to going to school. They don't want to have to make it up. It isn't fair to them.

Wait until the morning and see how things are thing. It would be one thing if the kids were going to be outside all day, but they aren't.

Anonymous said...

Thats funny that the State wants the kids to attend 180 days, does that mean all the kids that constantly miss school, has too make up those days to get their 180 days. I don't think that is going to happen. It never has in the past.

Anonymous said...

If we do have school tomorrow (I hope) then the ones who don't make it in,need to make that day up. It isn't fair to the ones who do make it in. But no, they will just be counted as unexcused. What's wrong with this picture.

No win sitution if you want to know the truth. What is good for one isn't good for all.

Anonymous said...

Sadly, students aren't held accountable for 180 days of learning, but the schools are held accountable for offering 180 of learning.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Stockkkkk, I had three hours of sleep this weekend. I think you should cancel school. Most definatly.

Oh, and I dont want to go to FACS class. So yeah. Cancel. Mmmk. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

So the teachers complain about the amount they get paid for only teaching 180 days of school. Must be nice.

Anonymous said...

Cancle it is Freezing Cold out there and WAWASEE CHRISTAN ACD IS CLOSED COME ON we are only like a couple of miles away from there its not fair if we go and they don't!!! PLEASE

Anonymous said...

All schools in the area should be closed due to the extreme tempertures outside. Nothing wrong with closing the schools and being safe. I am one for closing all the schools in any county when the tempertures are extreme like they are going to be this week. Houston, "I think we have a problem."

And who are all these anonymous people. Please tell us your name and quit being anonymous all the time.

Same goes for the teacher that didn't didn't sign in only as teacher. Shame, shame....

Go Colts, go!!!

Anonymous said...

Hey who ever posted that last comment i like you HA HA HA WE SHOULD CLOSE

SORRY BUT GO BEARS

Anonymous said...

Oh, no you didn't! Please use your brain and don't ever make a comment about a teachers pay again. If you are like most people in the world with 2 weeks vacation, paid holidays, and weekends off (and that's usually the minimum benefit most people have on their jobs) then you only work about 230 days. That doesn't include any personal days or sick days you may take. Now how much do you make for only 25-50 more days per year. Thats what I thought. Before you ask, I am not a teacher, but a teachers aide and I make way, way, way less for my 180 days. However, you do not see all the extra hours and days they put in without the benefit of overtime pay. Teaching is a very difficult profession and until you've walked that mile-please keep your negative comments to your self. It's no wonder kids don't respect teachers when this is how their parents behave.

Anonymous said...

I have walked in your shoes, back off.

Go Colts!!!!

I'm a teacher and in response to the blogger that commented on teachers complaining about salary and work:

#1.) While at the bottom of the pay scale, I do not complain... despite the large amounts of my own personal money spent on my classroom, students, and professional development. I consider serving our students a privilege, even though I receive over $15,000 a year less than the national average starting salary for professionals.

#2.) I work A LOT more than 180 days! I work nearly all summer on materials I need for my students. I take schoolwork on family vacations and spend the majority of holiday vacations working for school. As a matter of fact, I'm sitting here WORKING on school work, only catching a few minutes of the Superbowl, perhaps, all for your child! The 180 days are for students, not teachers.

#3.) I don't think you have a clue. I think you should consider volunteering at a few of our schools until you get one. See how long it takes our schools to run out of things for you to do. $50 says it doesn’t happen anytime soon! And if it does, you didn’t bother to stop by my classroom.

#4.) I have accepted the reality of my pay with the financial and social consequences it poses to me and my family.

If it looks so glamorous to you, we’ll look forward to you taking the classes, getting licensed, and joining our elite, privileged ranks! However, when you do, you had better work more than 180 days. If you don’t, don’t be surprised when your colleagues recommend having you fired for not doing your job or serving our students well.

Anonymous said...

OK OK NO FIGHTS NOW! CANCEL SCHOOL PLEASE FOR ALL OF US MAY I REMIND YOU WAWASEE CHRISTAN SCHOOL IS CANCELED COME ON JUST GIVE US THIS ONE DAY PLEASE

Anonymous said...

To the person commenting about the pay of teachers.

I am willing to bet that you have complained about the amount of money you have made in your life at sometime. So what I would like for you to do, is go ahead, and try to apply something to your comments that was probably taught while you were ditching class or skipping. LOGIC.

If you want to cock off at the mouth, thats fine, do it about something else, somewhere else. Teachers as a whole, are the most positive influence in the universe.

The worst part, is that most parents don't parent as many days as teachers teach.

Anonymous said...

I am on the south side of syracuse right now and the drifts are very bad. Please cancel school tomorrow for the safety of our children.

Anonymous said...

Responding to the comment before...I am on the west side of Milford and the drifts are also very bad. Please cancel school tomorrow.

CANCEL SCHOOL

Anonymous said...

It is way to cold to have school tomorrow...what do we do about the kids who have to walk to school? With zero degree weather there will be ZERO learning. cancel school tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

cancel school tomorrow

Anonymous said...

Please Mr. Stock...cancel school tomrrow.

Anonymous said...

It is wwwaaayyy to cold for our children to go to school tomorrow. Please cancel school.

Anonymous said...

C.O.L.T.S. H.O.T.! As for the drifts, county crews will have the roads clear by 8am tomorrow. And should Wawasee cancel, kids would just bellyache on the 19th when we would have to make it up anyways.

Anonymous said...

cancel school tomorrow please. For the good of all children.

Anonymous said...

I am a concerned parent in regards of wanting school to be cancelled for tomorrow morning, Monday, February 5. Goshen has cancelled and so has Wawasee Academy. There is no point in our school not being cancelled. The wind chill is horrible. Our kids don't need to be getting sick. They are already sick as it is. We can make up the days later..
Thank you for your time.

Anonymous said...

NO SCHOOL TOMORROW. please.

Anonymous said...

Think about the poor children of the Sudan. Cancel school tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

Just think about the poor amish kids. They have to ride to school in their buggies. That is to cruel. Please cancel school tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

LOL! No amish kids go to school in the Wawasee system, they dont even go to public school.

to the teachers of wcsc. rock on for teaching our children. you know who you are and remember it is not only teachers you have lunch staff, jantiors, nurses, and guidance. and every and all mother and father who make time to listin to thier kids read, do there math, and any other homework they have. All the after school things that go on all school year and through the summer. And then you have parents that don't care where or what thier kids do through out the year and wonder why they need to take that year over agian. Now anyway for the delay, my kids will be staying home with the temp. at or below 5 deg.

Anonymous said...

Must we use profanity to get our point across. In my opinion that was completely uncalled for no matter how much you believe classes should be cancelled.

Anonymous said...

wow some people who leave comments are not even leaving them about the delay i think it was smart of you to delay but the closing part i don't think that should be make by a bunch of comments it really depends on the safty of the students NOT the fact that they want a cancelation. well just a thought i think you take i lot crap from "Parents" and they don't understand that the dection is yours and what you think what would be best for the studnets so i think others should just lay off and let you do you job......

Anonymous said...

So, does that mean that there will be a full day of school on Wednesday? We have WAY TOO many shortened days!!!

Anonymous said...

Well dont worry about the amish because most of their school are closed tomorrow un like ours CANCEL NOW PLEASE SO WE CAN SLEEP IN BOOOOOOO COLTS PEYTON DID NOT DESERVE MVP WHAT SO EVER OH AND WATCH THE LANGUAGE GOODNESS

Anonymous said...

No. The only way that would happen, is if it was a 2 hr delay on Wednesday. It is EXTREMELY cold out, and the roads are very bad. I am not in favor of canceling it (Unless it's a green day, in which case, go ahead. I hate band.) But, due to conditions, it should be canceled.

Anonymous said...

I think it would be appropriate to close- it is dangerous to be out even for a short period of time!

Anonymous said...

please close!!!!! PLEASE AND DO IT TONITE

Anonymous said...

Closing would be appropriate. You know what the weather has been like, you know what it is now, and you know what it will be like tomorrow. Why not cancel it tonight and give people a bit of a heads-up?

Anonymous said...

I want to first apologize for this comment being off the topic of the delay. I am writing in regard to the common theme of teacher "bashing" throughout this site.

I am, in fact, a teacher, and I have a few thoughts. As earlier stated by others, teaching is a very time consuming career. While I'll admit that I do complain once in awhile about various aspects of the career, I would not be here if I did not want to be. I truly and genuinely care about your children. I was a very hard-working and competent student myself, and I had many career options from which to choose. After much praying, I chose to enter the education field. I want to make an impact on today's generations. I want your children to feel successful and to be successful.

I whine as much as the next person about pay and anything else (behind closed doors), but who doesn't? Even so, I go home nearly every evening and spend at least one or two hours on school work (usually more). I realize that some of you have had poor experiences with teachers. Please try not to make generalizations, though. Most of us are here for the right reasons. More respect toward your children's teachers would be appreciated; otherwise, you may discourage some of the best teachers from entering or from staying in the profession.

I feel so privileged and proud to be a part of the Wawasee Schools. Thank you, parents, for all that you do, and God bless.

Anonymous said...

We do have Amish that go to our school.

I feel for you Dr. Mark Stock.

You really need a vacation away from all of this.

Your team won, Go COLTS!!!!

Anonymous said...

Please cancel school due to wind chill. Lets try to avoid any problems we can. Thank you

Anonymous said...

I would appriciate it if you would cancel school because, Northwood and WAWASEE CHRISTAN ACD canceled and we are close enough by that we will have the same tempature

Anonymous said...

I would be happy if you would cancel school due to weather conditions. If we don't then I don't see why Northwood, Goshen and wawasee christian ACD closed.
PLEASE consider my request

Anonymous said...

what a way to celebrate the colts victory than a day off of school
PLEASE CANCEL -30 degrees is TOO COLD. I dont want to get sick

Anonymous said...

Excuse me, but i have a little question for you. Why is it that Wawasee Community School Corporation has not cancelled school for Monday yet? It has come to my attention that Wawasee Christion Academy has been cancelled and I am OUTRAGED!! We are driving on the SAME roads in the SAME weather and they get a cancellation and WE DONT! My children ARE NOT going to stand in that freezing cold or ride in a vehicle when the pipes could freeze! If my children get sick, mind me, ILL SUE YOU! Thank you for listening to my complaints, NOW CANCELL SCHOOL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

lol what are you going to sue for? cough syrup you would never win a lawsuit against Wawasee

Anonymous said...

i agree shes not an outraged mother

Anonymous said...

If you are so concerned about being out of school dish out the dough to attend Wawasee Christian Academy...otherwise let Dr. Stock do what he feels is appropriate for the safety of his students. I am pretty sure that he has earned the right to make the decision! Of course if someone calls you Dr., you have successfully led a school district, and are willing to step into the line of fire for him, maybe you should give him a call. I am sure he would be willing to hear you out!

Anonymous said...

Hey, outraged mom, real mature...

But seriously, I have had just enough legal training to tell you, that on your best day you don't stand a chance. Good luck proving, that in February, the height of the sick season, the reason your child got sick, wasn't because you forgot a flinstones vitamin, or didn't make sure the scarf was tight, but that they went to school. Pipes can freeze alot of times when nobody is talking about getting out of school. So, keep convincing yourself you have a case, and that you will sue...when in reality, we all know you were up to late after the superbowl, and don't want to worry about getting your kids ready with a hangover.

Anonymous said...

I'm very shocked to come on here to check on updates about school.

After seeing what outraged mother had to voice, I longer will check this site any more. This is awful.

My prayers are with you Dr. Mark Stock.

Good job. A lot of parents support your decisions.

Anonymous said...

Might has well cancel school. What if a student that drives goes off the road tomorrow morning on the way to school. They would frez and so would the people trying to help them. Put our kids safety first Mr.stock Think if you went off the road and had to get out and walk for help
thanks

This is rediculus!!! why isn't school canceled have you looked at the temp. on this blog and the news it is NEGATIVE FIVE AND THATS WITHOUT THE WINDCHILL ARE YOU NUTS NOT TO CANCEL

Anonymous said...

Why are all you people complaining? The announcement for 2 hour delay was put out in plenty of time.Make sure your children are dressed warm enough. That's what winter scarves, gloves & boots are for.If school is closed for the cold today, what about tomorrow? You can't just close everything because of the weather.Learn to deal with it.

Anonymous said...

Amen!!!

Anonymous said...

Dr. Stock made the correct call in a 2 hour delay. I've read all the comments and can't keep quiet any longer.
How many of you went somewhere Saturday or Sunday? If it was so cold why did you go? Are you going to work today (Monday)? If it's so cold why are you not staying home?
How many of you bundle your kids up to go outside and play in the snow? Yet you won't make them bundle up to go to school.
As for those complaining about drifts on roads - learn how to drive defensively. The county highway drivers have been out every day, even this morning it was 4 a.m. when they went out. They found drifts yesterday and pushed them back. They are doing the same this morning. Did you every thing about these guys? Those trucks are not warm, they are plowing in pitch blackness. Yet you are the first to complain when your road is not plowed and also the first to complain when they tear up a little of your yard. Ride with one of them, experience what they do. They also had problems with their trucks starting and staying running yesterday, but they didn't tell them to stay home.

Will some one answer my question as to why Wawasee Christan ACD is closed when we are just miles away and the middle school is just 2 seconds away and we are not closed!! does not make any sense what so ever!!!

Anonymous said...

Maybe it doesn't make sense that the WCA is closed. Let's just go ahead and get one of our 180 days in today. Looks like quite a few schools around are sticking with just a delay, so let's move forward.

Anonymous said...

Wawasee Christian Academy is not a part of WCSC. They have their own board of directors, thier own principal, their own teachers, etc... Since they are an unrelated facility they can do as they please. They chose last night to cancel due to the cold, as to risk one of their 23 students or their family. Seeing as how you seeming want the advantages associated with WCA why don't you go there (they can use the enrollment). Weather isn't the only benefit...7-10 student to teacher ratio depending on the class, quality teachers who teach to mastery, and a solid christian education at a very affordable price!

Check them out, they will be taking enrollment for this year and for the 2007-08 school year!

Anonymous said...

It's canceled. Now everyone shut up. It's been closed due to the -7 degree temperature, and the -28 wind chill.

Anonymous said...

I find it quite humerous how whiney some of the parents seem to be. I am a student at Wawasee and I seriously couldn't care less whether school was cancelled, delayed, or otherwise shortened. Grow up! You are paying for your children to go to school, so quit moaning and groaning about how terrible things are! Oh, and my mother is a teacher so back off.

Anonymous said...

To the parents doing so much complaining about all this various stuff...especially the PAY. I am certified to teach and have various special endorsements. I went into teahing so that I could make a difference, so that I might one day be part of making a doctor, lawyer, President, Manning or Dungy (the list could go on). I would love to be teaching. So I offer up this, put out your name and number and I'll teach. Get me about 20 kids (gee I'd do it for 10), and I'll private teach for you. Couple of stipulations...you provide only the supplies for your child, I provide books that you choose, I do the curriculum you pick, you call the delays and cancels, you provide the transportation, If I get my masters, my pay goes to $8/hour (still under what some places pay, but a little over minimum) No masters and I'll charge $4/hour and only for a 4 hour day even though the kids will be there for 8. I won't charge for prep, lunch or specials. I get paid per student and instead of 180 days, I get paid for 150-no getting paid for inservices, work days or vacations. Let's see $4X4hrX20kidsX150days...let's see that comes to...$48,000, check my math. WHOA! That's like $20,000 more than any starting teacher here! So that means a masters would put me making $96,000 a year! HOLY COW! Anyone interested, get your name and number out, I"ll do it!!!! (And, no, no masters yet) I'll do just 10 kids as that's close to what starting pay is here!!!!
Did you know that most teacher's salaries qualify for free and/or reduced lunches? Imagine that as a single income with kids. Have you ever asked what it costs a teacher for their own insurance through the school? How many teachers do you know that are at school strictly during their requierd time and not a second more?
Again, get your name or an email out there, and you got your self a private teacher!

Anonymous said...

Just so you know, sickness isn't caused by how cold the weather is...matter of fact, it has nothing to do with it at all!

We had to get out in the cold today for appointments and we didn't freeze in the couple of minutes it took to go from house to car or appt to car.

Milford school doesn't send the kids out for recess if the temp is 20 degrees or less.
