awesome! but do you think you'll cancel school if it gets too bad?

Anonymous said...

i dont think we should have school tommrow. its just to cold so i can see why we didnt have it today and hopefully tommrow...

Anonymous said...

Can't people be patient? Why not just be thankful that Dr. Stock called the 2 hour delay this early, and wait and see what happens!

Anonymous said...

I think school should be cancelled tomorrow...i can't even start my car and its going to get worse! thanks

Anonymous said...

I say we dont have school.. i have to walk in this cold.. and well ITS FREEZING!!! and tommow is going to be the same

Anonymous said...

heck yeah!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Whoa whoa whoa, slow down people. We're lucky Doctor Stock called the delay this early like anonymous number 3 said, but to cancel school for two days in a row because it's too cold out is just the students lazyiness showing. I mean if school is canceled for tomorrow because the buses won't run then I understand, but they make winter coats for a reason. We need to stop our whining put up with the cold because it isn't going to just go away because we want it to. Not trying to put anonymous number 5 down, I can't even imagine what it's like to walk to school in this, but we do have the technology and clothing to stay warm. And I'm one of the ignorant ones too; I only wear a sweatshirt to school. Anyways, thanks for calling the delay this early Doc Stock.

Anonymous said...

I agree Stephen. i mean theres no point in having a cancellation tomorrow. if the buses don't start, thats a different story. but people need to stop whining about the cold and just so what you need to do to get to school. personally i don't want to have to make it up in the summertime. so i don't think that people should be complaining about this. they need to just stop being lazy. thank you.

Anonymous said...

ryan and steve, you guys need to stop..
seriously.
the weather is bad. and that's no one fault.
so just let it go.
and who likes school anyways?

Anonymous said...

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss cancel it:D

Anonymous said...

Okay here we go again. You have declared a 2 hour delay and not a cancellation! You didnt announce todays cancellation soon enough and i had to take off work to be with my 7 year old child! This is an outrage! You need to announce a cancellation the day before it happens! We parents dont have time to mess around with this kind of thing! Tuesday is colder than Monday! Call a cancellation already! You know that you are going to on Tuesday morning so why not make it SO much easier on all of the parents and call it tonight? Please consider what i have said, thank you.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for letting us know in advance. But please. The weather is bad...just cancel.

Anonymous said...

Well some people are getting 2 text msg that say both 2hr delay & that it is cancelled. You would think that if they had already cancelled school for Tues that they would post it here ASAP.

Anonymous said...

At 8pm tommorow the temperature will be 0 but feel like -13. At least that is the forcast.

Anonymous said...

I just had a conversation with someone in Grand Forks, North Dakota. They had a "real" temperature today of -30. They had school.

Anonymous said...

that outraged mother is rite.we were getting ready for skool when my sis said that school was cancelled!! then we had to stay home(how FUN!!!!)but if u could announce it earlier that would be great!!thanx.

Anonymous said...

ooooooooooooo....ya cant wait to sleep in 2morrow

Anonymous said...

To Outraged parent, you state that Dr. Stock needs to call a cancellation the night before they happen. What happens when it is nic ethe day before and snows at night. Does Dr. Stock use his ESP?? And to the person who said that Tuesday is colder than Monday, I don't know what forecast you are looking at, but the 3 I have checked all say Tuesday is not as cold as Monday. Cold yes, as cold, no!!

Anonymous said...

Wow to that last comment LEARN TO SPELL

WSBT-Channel 22 sent out an incorrect text message. The second text message saying that we are on a two-hour delay is the correct one. They have the correct information shown at the bottom of the television screen.

My spelling is fine, my spacing is a little off!! But thanks for applying your education to proof read my post!

Anonymous said...

I meant at 8am, the latest time they could cancel school. Correct that Tuesday will not be as cold but I never said that.

Responding to the person who talked to the person in North Dakota- they are used to those temperatures so they would not cancel school. It is similar to how when they SEE snow flakes in the south they cancel school because they are not used to or perpared for the weather. So remember North Dakota is not Indiana. And Florida is not Indiana.

Anonymous said...

this is to "outraged mother". how the heck is Dr. Stock supposed to know what the weather is going to be like tomorrow? there's really no way. ya there are forecasts that might help but there's really no way to tell what the weather will be like. i bet that if you were in his shoes and had to make the calls and had all the stress of parents harrasing you, you wouldn't do his job half has good as he does.

Anonymous said...

Ha ha ha your very welcome!! CANCEL SCHOOL TOMORROW AND DO IT TODAY/TONITE

Anonymous said...

I do agree with outraged mother that if it is going to be colder tomorrow you might as well cancel school so parents can plan ahead. Most especially if the buses aren't running. How do you expect those of to young to drive to get to school?

Although i do know it is your decision and authority to decide when it is safe for us to go to school, so i must repsect what you think we should do and have patience.

Anonymous said...

Do we always do what Warsaw does in these situations?

Anonymous said...

To 'outraged mother': Get over it.When my kids were in grade school & bad weather closed/or delayed schools, I had a backup plan. If you're a working mom with kids you HAVE to have a backup plan.Maybe that's something you need to work on instead of asking for more days off. Days our kids will have to make up.
Thanks Dr. Stock for the early notice about tomorrow. Very much appreciated.

Anonymous said...

Just curious --

If (and I say IF), Wawasee has no school on Tuesday, what happens to the girls basketball sectional game at Angola? If Angola has school, is Wawasee expected to play? Or will it automatically be moved to Wednesday evening? What's the plan?

Anonymous said...

The early notice is great. As for the parents complaining that they had to take off work cause the cancellation wasn't posted soon enough to suit them, well perhaps you should have made arrangements just in case they cancelled. You knew it was a possibility and yet you didn't take precautions. So don't blame Doc Stock or the school. That was your own fault.

Anonymous said...

The only reason school didn't go was the buses not running. The only reason the buses weren't running is because the district didnt have the presence of mind to buy and use anti-gel in the tanks. This is pure idiocy. Who would be in charge of a decision like this. Who decided not to buy and use this product, thereby cancelling school. Buses use the same engines semis and straightrucks use, and they were on the road today...

Anonymous said...

Pure idiocy huh? Did you also consider that they did not want children standing out at the bus stop freezing. And if this is pure idiocy then all Northern Indiana schools are all idiots, because if you look at cancellations- pretty much all of the Northern Indiana schools are cancelled.

Anonymous said...

Okay everyone.
We need to remember that we all have our own opinions and problems, but this choice is not up to us. If you want the responsibility of deciding maybe you should try Dr. Stocks job.

Anonymous said...

cancel school!

Anonymous said...

"Pure idiocy huh? Did you also consider that they did not want children standing out at the bus stop freezing. And if this is pure idiocy then all Northern Indiana schools are all idiots, because if you look at cancellations- pretty much all of the Northern Indiana schools are cancelled."

If you were able to read and comprehend what I said, you know know that the pure idiocy was not having anti-gel on hand, not cancelling school. Anything else you brilliant ray of genius you?

Sense of Freedom said...

Stephen, it is far too cold to simply "bundle up" and walk, or even stand in the cold for more than 10 minutes, and some cars won't even start. It would be difficult for many students to walk to school, or even drive, and only the minority who ride the bus would definitely show up, that is, if the buses even start. Outraged Mother, people are right. It's January. There has been a lot of snow. I think by now you should know that there might be a delay, and that you might need to come up with something. Don't blame Dr. Stock for doing his job. I can understand why we canceled today, but I couldn't check it, because Mediacom's internet service was down, so there I was, waiting for the bus at 9:30. I was wearing a heavy coat, a sweatshirt under that, gloves, a hat, and a hood. It was far too cold, and the wind only made it worse. I can understand only having a delay if the buses run, but I couldn't see anyone willing to walk in this cold.

Anonymous said...

Majority of the people who say the kids should go to school, dont have to go and experience this weather, My car wouldnt start today and im sure mine isnt the only one, The kids should be able to wait and go to school when they can bear to go, with out getting in car crashes and killed on the way.

Anonymous said...

thanks for the early 2hr delay...i hope we do have school tomorrow because if we dont have school than there goes our vacation days in the warm weather...i would much rather have these days to go to school and have all those warm days off...people should warm their cars up before going to school

Anonymous said...

We should be thankful that our school cancelled unlike a Ft Wayne school who sent out buses this morning. Their buses got half way through their routes and broke down because of fuel gelling in the tanks. Buses from the bull pens we sent out to pick up the students on the broken down buses and then the back up buses broke down as well. So be thankful our kids didn't have to go through that.

Anonymous said...

Well If school isnt caneled our kids shouldnt get in trouble if we the parents think its to dangers to send them out........

Anonymous said...

"If you were able to read and comprehend what I said, you know know that the pure idiocy was not having anti-gel on hand, not cancelling school. Anything else you brilliant ray of genius you? "

My point is that probably every northern Indiana school had the same problem and this is why they probably also canceled. I apologize partly, but it is not only this district who are idiots for not having the anti-gel.

Anonymous said...

Rather or NOT the buses start, I think that we should take into account that the wind chill combined with the actual temp is just to dangerous for our kids to stand and wait for a bus that may or may not come, and if it does, will it be on time? In this weather it does not take long to freeze the skin or make a person, rather they be adult or child ill. You can layer your clothes but it is still just way to dangerous for kids to be standing outside especially those who walk or are NOT picked up in front of their homes on the bus routes!

Anonymous said...

^^
I agree..Our kids should not be wating around in the freezing cold waiting for a bus that they don't even know is going to come. I think it is great you called a 22 hr. delay this early, however i think it is best school is closed tomorrow.
Thanks.

Anonymous said...

kudos Dr. stock for thinking ahead we will see how tomorrow plays out can't do anyhting about mother nature- stay warm.

Anonymous said...

alright, so to all the people who think we should go even though it's freezing out need to stop. what about the people who dont have enough room in their lockers for gigantic coats and snowpants because the school loads us down with books. not to mention our giant backpacks that have to fit in there too! and some of us have to wait for our bus to come even though it's freezing out because our parents leave early and have to get out of the house so our parents can lock up. i wouldn't appreciate standing out in the cold just because some people feel negatively about the cancelations! i appreciate your concern for education (wink wink) but enough is enough!!! plus the cancelations should be told a day before to make it easier for us to make arrangements for our parents so they at least know their kids are home!!

Anonymous said...

cancelation ... thansk

Im just very greatfull for having this blog. somtimes the t.v. dosen't hove our school listed and i wouldn't know what to do with out this.

suwMust i say it again?
WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN OPINIONS AND PROBLEMS
Therefore, we need to let Dr. Stock decide. It is not up to us. If you are going to complain then you try his job.
I dont exactly agree with his decisions, but i also know that it is not my choice.
You all need to relize this, please.
Arguing is going to help us 0%.
So just stop, because it is not any of our choices besides Dr.Stocks.
He worked hard to have his job.He deserves some repsect.
Please.

omg!there`s no pleasing some ppl.stock is brave 2 let us voice our opinions, give him a break already!let`s call off..the witch-hunt...and appreciate that we even have this site.i hope the constant bickering doesn`t result in the loss of that privilege, and that this forum can continue 2 serve it`s purpose.i`m for one glad i know the night b4,instead of having 2 watch the mind-numbing list on tv!but yes folks, patience plz,and hope the weather is better so the days don`t have 2 b made up..although my lil girl said "YIPPEEE!" =)

Cant we all just get along

I think a 3 hour delay should be called SOON!!! Try and cee if the buses will start a lil lata in the morning!!! Thanks pz

Anonymous said...

"I think a 3 hour delay should be called SOON!!! Try and cee if the buses will start a lil lata in the morning!!! Thanks pz "

If the buses have trouble running at 7:45/ 8 then I highly doubt they extend to a 3 hour delay. What would 1 hour do, the temperature will still be nearly the same. It is not like the road crews will be able to do a little more work or the fog will clear. Nice try though.

Anonymous said...

Yes..the bickering needs to stop. What if Dr. Stock cancelled school too early and it's warmer than what we think tomorrow? That would be dumb. Maybe some people should stop being lazy and get up a little earlier knowning that there is a possibility of a cancellation in the morning and think hmm..maybe i should watch the news just in case there is. If not..wow..thats fine..if so..so be it. So why doesn't everybody just leave him alone..he's doing his job.

Anonymous said...

Yes everyone has their own opinion. But if people would stop thinking about being politically correct all the time we would remember how things were done before the "correctness". I am 45 yrs old and when I was in school I had to walk 7 blocks to school and back twice in a days time. You see we didn't have a lunch program so we had to walk home to eat lunch. Don't forget walking back after. This was in elementary school. I don't remember ever getting out of school because it was too cold or that their was to much snow. Although we did have the blizzard of "78. I think we missed 8 days no question. I think we pamper out kids a little to much these days. Get them up and send them to school. We "older" people survived the kids today will too. God made young people to bounce back.

Anonymous said...

School needs to be cancelled tomorrow, the weather is horrible out. Tomorrow won't be any better. These kids don't need to be in the weather.

Anonymous said...

yea...god made young people to bounce back..but the bodys of the young people arnt used to this kind of weather or that kind of work. its just to much for their health to take on! jeez

Bickering is the nature of the blog, if you dont like it dont look at the comments. In the age of technology communication is instant and this is what the blog creates, a forum like environment to instantly give their opinion of the subject matter thus expressing themselves however well and poorly they choose.

Everyone is given a right to their own opinion. On the other side do you think it is right for people to hold back what they believe is true no matter how, by your standards, silly it may seem. We are all given an opinion and these comments give us the right to express them.

You make a very valid point that calling school early may prove to be a mistake. But...
However more than likely the temperature will be similar to what it was on Monday and on Monday the buses could not run so there is a great possiblity that they will not run again. Looking at the long list of cancellations- other schools are taking the exact approach you are preaching against-Wawasee is actually in the minority holding off.

Anonymous said...

I think we need to close school it is -4 degrees outside that is to cold for people.

Anonymous said...

It is just to cold close school tommorow.

Anonymous said...

okay i can understand people saying "we should be thankful he has delayed it this early." but i can also understand people wanting a cancellation because we know it's going to be even colder tomorrow than it was today so you might as well cancel it tonight... i mean it's not like we have to wait untill tomorrow to know if it's going to be cold or not... besides the pipes inside and outside of the school are probably frozen solid and unless you plan on trying to flush all the toilets all night thats probably not going to change... especially the outside pipes... so just make it easier on us all and all it off tonight... you know its the right thing to do... besides we don't want a repeat of what happend last week with a massive wave of angery parents commenting on another "i blew it" blog...

thank you

Please people..... get a grip! There are people dying in wars and famine and you are bickering about 2-hour delay vs cancellation.

We have a superintendent and a bus dude for a reason -- so they can make the difficult decisions.

Allow them to do that without all whining. We all have to make adjustments in these cases.

Anonymous said...

Laziness? How is it lazy to not want our kids out in this weather? Do you want to pay the medical bills? Do you realize that NOT every student in the system may NOT have the means for warm coats, clothes, shoes, ect...?
As far as Mark Stock working hard for his job, could you please explain how you know that to be fact? What are you one of his family members? Do his job? Sure, why not, anytime!

Hey outraged mom, maybe you could sue over that???????

Close school. This is from all the parents at syracuse long work it is just to cold.

Lol... Can someone tell me whyy ppl are saying the tv says schools canceled tommarow??? Numerous ppl are saying it.

wow...people are funny...what is the point of getting so worked up about this? oh the drama of wawasee high school...

Anonymous said...

People - He does take into account what people think. If he sees people will not send there kids either way, he will probably cancel it to make sure the kids that would've gone are ok. But please, don't complain. Speak clear english, and use common sense.

Anonymous said...

AS for the anonymous person that said about laziness.. i didn't say anything about walking in the cold..i ment laziness about getting up and watching the news. and if you don't believe Dr. Stock is doing his job then maybe your kids shouldn't go to wawasee. He is one of our top people and you are going to sit here and bad mouth him...okay..SMART.

HannahSignorelli said...

Alright im just an innocent kid that goes to wawasee but...

im sick and tired of having to get up at 5:30 in the morning and having to get on the bus at 6:45 and then at like 6:20 they finally post that we have a 2 hour delay or a cancelation i dont get it every other school gets theyre posting up at like 5:30....but we have to wait forever to figure it out all im asking for is to start posting it earlier cause it agrivates me and my 3 siblings to get up and get ready for school when theres no point in it...

Thanx.

And I agree, let Dr. Stock do his job and quit complaining. If you must write, please do so legibly so it can be read and understood without having to analyze the "instant messanger" lingo.

It is interesting that educational issues posted to this blog site get a couple of responses, but a weather-related post gets an enormous response.

What is wrong with this picture?

Anonymous said...

can anything make you people happy? first you want cancellations then just delays to regular school. wah we want to know the night before, i agree that would be nice but there may a chance (extremely slim) that we may still go to school. come on if today was canceled and the weathers only going to get worse plan on a cancellation. maybe you can save all this enthusiasm for something that really counts.

Anonymous said...

Well...

i agree with Hannah Signorelli
I dono about all of you but my parents get so angry in the morning (and when parents get angry its not fun cause they take all there angry out on us) but when they dont post the delays till really late

So Dr. Stock i appreciate what you do for us just please let us know earlier it would make it so much easier on us kids..

(but thanx for already telling us about the 2 hour delay that helps)

But now my parents are wondering if were getting school closed again bc thats the talk of the town so many people have already told me that we dont have school tomrow so im thinking about not even setting my alarm clock

So S.O.S

It died because of the cold weather. but anyway...i wish there was a cancellation so i could go to work from 7-3 but ya know it won't happen.. but hey Dr. Stock...COLTS DID WIN!! HEHE

whs parent, thankfully things have changed since we were in school!i had 2 walk 2 school myself..and guess what?i ended up missing school anyways because i got sick!yes, before the days of medicaid 4 children when they had to TUFF IT OUT,and couldn`t afford a doc visit/medicine.when i was in second grade,a boy got frostbite on his face..pretty sure he wouldn`t share your sentiments.i agree things were different then..kids were still spanked in school, education was humble compared 2 what our kids r taught now.and no offence, but what were the abuse/neglect laws then?oh,right..hardly existed.then is not now.weather is still weather..but do we really need 2 put the kids who walk in that position?i walk my daughter 2 the bus-stop @ the end of our lane every morning.even when it`s not this cold, the bus is late sometimes.i won`t be sending her out in below zero weather 2 wait on the bus.honestly, would you really want your child to have to go through some of the hardships we had no choice to endure?by the way..u shoulda packed your lunch.

Anonymous said...

Haha me too i can alomst walk across the top of the snow because its so cold and hard... the air is really thin too..

Please cancel school tomarrow due to weather conditions. It is too cold out for my kids to stand outside and wait for the bus. Thank you for the 2 hour delay ahead of time. They hate getting up early and getting ready and then seeing that there is a 2 hour delay. Please concider my request.

Anonymous said...

This is for all the people who say the kids should go to school. Yes, your complaint is o its just cold send the kids to school. Well did you know that it hasnt been this cold 3 days in a row since 1979? Kinda makes a difference in these situations. Also you can't send the kids to school when the buses wont even start due to the fuel geling up, and im sure lots of cars wouldnt even start this morning (I know mine didnt). There just so manythings to consider a cancellation. Not that its just cold. But i'd say there we'll be no school.

Anonymous said...

To Whom It May Concern,
Please cancel school tomarrow. None of our families cars will start due to extreme weather conditions. When they do start, they usually end up dying. My younger son also has to stand out in the -30 degree weather for atleast 15 min every morning. I think it dangerous to keep children in that cold of weather. The buses are also to cold for the children to ride in for the early riders. The high schoolers cars may also not start after school and I really don't have time to pick them up after school with my job in Millersburg. I guess my point is that to avoid multiple complications, just cancel school or there will be many upset parents with this school district. Many schools have already canceled school.
Thank you for your time

Well this is for Hannah Signorelli, and everyone else who is worried about themselves.

Nobody cares about your personal problems. This is a community blog. Not a "lets all share our own problems" blog.

mmk?

Dr.Stock is not going to read your personal problems and say, "Well since Hannah has to get up so early lets just cancel school for her."

No, your not that important.

so you all need to get over yourselves.

and those of us who dont post are names are not scared.

We just don't care for all of the drama and attention.

I hate to have to get rude, but this none of your choices. It is Dr. Stocks. I'm going to agree with the person who said if you would like to make the choice why don't you become the superintendent.

Happy you got your attention Hannah Signorelli?

Jo said...

You know what sometimes the personal issues are needed to help people see someone elses point of view. There is no need to be so rude to a student. She was just trying to get her point across the best way she knew how. Hopefully you're a student yourself, but if you're a parent of a student shame on you for acting so childish.

Anonymous said...

True that joe, this blog is for everyone to post there pointof view....let it be done!!

Anonymous said...

Maybe I came down to harshly yes, but this really is not for personal opinions.

Dr. Stock really isn't going to say, "Let's have a cancellation so she can sleep in."

no no no

Although i must apoligize for being so rude and awfully imature. It is mostly true.

We do need to get over ourselves, and not invite others into our life like that.

That is what I call imaturity Jo.

Although you may see differently, you must remember we all have our own opionions.Mine is no more important than yours, nut this honestly is not a personally share blog.

Danielle, my kids HAVE to go to whs, there is no other choice in small towns or areas, guess you aren't old enough to realize that huh?
Anyway, back to the weather issue. It should be cancelled for Tuesday, it is still EXTREMELY TO COLD FOR ANY ONE TO BE IN THE ELEMBNTS!

Anonymous said...

Dr. Stock,

Im a fellow WHS student and I thank you for the early notice of the 2 hour delay. I also understand that one of the main reasons we did not have school was because the buses' fuel were "geling up". Please take into consideration that even if you get the buses at school to run in this unbelievably cold weather, some of students cars will not run. I can not afford the nicest car, therefore my car is older and will not cooperate with the harsh weather. It is obviously to cold to be outside let alone to be outside working underneath the hood of my car! Temperatures will rise eventually, but as for now it's just to cold. I trust u will make the right decision

Thank You

Anonymous said...

Firstly, as a parent with a Kindergartener, I would think that -20 wind-chill is a bit ludicrous to be subjecting long waits for a "maybe" bus to arrive. In addition, if it does arrive, getting to its destination without complications. Students, the parents calling for cancellations are not doing this so you have to give up more warm weather for extended class dates because of our desire to keep you home and cooped up during poor weather. Believe it or not, it is actually for your welfare.

To the people responding that people are just lazy and trying to miss school, you are in no position to judge someone on their work ethic. But more importantly as a parent, I do not want my 6 year-old with asthma standing outside with conditions too dangerous for pets, waiting for a bus that perhaps is running well. I agree with the call for more concern for education, (judging by the grammar and sentence structure of the students and their replies it is obviously needed) but now the time is for safety over education reform. Perhaps a topic to tackle in the spring?

Anonymous said...

Well you could be paying tuition or you could move. But hey atleast let the guy do his job although i did try to start my car and it ran for about 5 min and shut off. DANG. I go to college, work, and i'm on ems....I really don't have time for school cancellations..i have everything set the way i planned but i guess that's life huh. Anyway...I do think it's cold and yes younger children should not be in this considering their immuni system is not as strong. It is pretty chilly out. Have a good day!! KEEP WARM!!

The blog temperature is -6! Do you think it will warm up by 10:00?

Yesterday in Indianapolis they had a bus problem....All the drviers called in sick and they had to cancel school!

Maybe it was the cold, maybe it was the Colts...either way

GREAT JOB BLUE!!

Maybe this isn't a place for the use of "slang" words. You kids make me feel old for having to ask my daughter what the heck you're trying to write.

Perhaps this is why no one takes kids seriously anymore, they can't spell correctly. I sincerely apologize for my generation.

I agree with the above poster. Our generation needs to lean how to spell. It truly is a wonder why no one takes us seriously...

Oops! I meant "learn" how to spell... not "lean". ;)

i would much rather go to school during the summer when it is warm than have to walk around school with 5 layers on just because of the weather!!either our school should be better heated or we need to cancel
