Reporter follows 9th grader around school for a year

"What I learned in 9th grade this year!"

A reporter followed several ninth graders through school for a year and reflects on what he has learned about life and schools today.

It is a remarkable story. There is little to argue about here.

I tried to go to the link, but it is another one of those "banned sites" we deal with on a daily basis. :(

I know the frustration of the "banned sites" as well.
I read the article from my home computer.

Thanks. I'll have the tech folks "un-ban" it.

It is fixed. Also if you have other sites that you cannot access due to the filter you can either email me directly or log a ticket on the help desk.

Thanks,

Glad to know we have a cookie cutter educational system with kids that fit these three student molds and every school just like this one.

I admire the nobility of this reporter, but I can't help but believe that one school and three kids for one year makes him qualified to judge the system as a whole.

And joking or not "Put up your dukes?" That is what makes a good teacher. I have been taught that sarcasm is a problem not a solution. Further proof, in my opinion, that this reporter doesn't have a clue.

This is no doubt true. But...I think this statement may capsulize the entire American debate about public education.

This is what every American parent does because it is normal to do so. The three kids that matter the most are their own three. They will always view the American public school experience largely through their own experience or the vicarious experiences of their own children.

Although I agree that it is true, it is a sad fact that, in a large sense, the people are merely trusting the system to work rather than taking the time or energy to investigate and be involved with their child's education. Unfortunately most of America sees success, money, or any number of other needs as a higher priority than their child's educational experience or daily life.
